Brackenfields Shopping Centre, in the heart of Amberley, north of Christchurch, is about to mark a new chapter with a new name: Amberley Shopping Centre.

The rebrand is part of a broader strategy the centre’s owner Erskine Owen has to enhance the local shopping experience while maintaining the friendly charm and warmth that makes Brackenfields the heart of the rural community.

“We are excited to announce a new brand that will strengthen the centre’s role as a vibrant retail, business and recreational destination for locals and travellers alike,” says Erskine Owen Director Alan Henderson.

“The new name, Amberley Shopping Centre, has been chosen to ensure it resonates with locals and visitors to the area, while the branding will retain the rural feel and the red colouring of the previous Brackenfields’ branding,” he says.

The new signage is expected to be up in late January along with a new website for the centre: amberleyshoppingcentre.co.nz

The retail hub of North Canterbury

Constructed in 2014, Brackenfields Shopping Centre at 121 Carters Road is home to popular retailers such as Woolworths and Super Liquor along with various eateries, a laundromat, and a pharmacy.

The shopping centre was purchased by Erskine Owen in November 2023.

Henderson says the team is excited about the centre’s potential and has plans to keep enhancing the shopping experience. “We would like to add to the offering with careful consideration to the retail mix to make sure the centre has products and services that best serve the needs of the community as well as those passing through Amberley.

“Additionally, we continue to assess options for the vacant land adjacent to the centre,” Henderson says.

“Our overarching goal is for the Amberley Shopping Centre to be a prime, vibrant retail and business destination for the North Canterbury region.”
